Former resident, Richins, continues tradition of service...
Nellie Richins, a former resident of Cokeville who, along with her family, owned and managed the Valley Hi Motel for a few years, has again made the news. Richins could be recognized for several things during her years in Cokeville but perhaps most notably was the time she spent organizing and then chairing the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Richins, a veteran, recently began new employment in Evanston, Wyoming and has continued her tradition of wanting to be involved in community. This artice in the Uinta Herald on-line, highlights how Richins helped make one man's dream come true, in a big way! Congratulations Nellie and keep up the good work!

Economy...
This is a great little news article on the economy, along with a five minute video from Yahoo! that I think really nails what is going on today.
Do you agree with this man? Is this what is happening? It is a good thing?

Cokeville on Facebook
There is a Cokeville open group on Facebook for anyone interested. I am brand new to FB and am not sure how it works, for sure, but probably a lot of www.cokeville.blogspot.com users know about it. (www.facebook.com and set up an account to view the site)
Looks like a great form of group communication! Thanks to Charles Dayton for setting it up.

A dose of heart medicine and mental exercise...
These two sound clips off the internet will make your heart race. One is a song and video that is very moving for a variety of reasons. One is from CNN, the voice of pilot Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger (and pictures) just before making an emergency landing in the Hudson River on January 15, 2009. One is a song and video that is very moving.
Your heart may race so much you may want to consult a doctor before viewing and listening to these inspiring pieces.
UPDATE: The CNN Video is temporarily available for viewing on this website by clicking on the video in the sidebar.

Cokeville Gives Back to Dave Wade
Give back to Dave Wade
Through the years, artist Dave Wade has supported Cokeville fundraisers through the donations of his prints and paintings. He donated time when he lived here encouraging and working with youth of our area. He and his family are beloved former residents of Cokeville. He worked with many people on painting classes. His wife, Julie, was a valuable contributor to our community and supported Dave in his artistic contributions to Cokeville.
Now, it is time for Cokeville to give back to Dave Wade.
The Cokeville Miracle Foundation is sponsoring a "Give Back to Dave Wade" fundraiser. They have commissioned an original painting of a Panther. Mr. Harris, high school principal, has agreed that it can be hung at the high school and he is looking for a suitable location.
GOAL: Raise $8000 by Spring of 2009
100% of donations will go directly to Dave Wade
This comes to $16 from 500 people.
Please watch for more information
And Dave is still giving to Cokeville...His paintings can sell for much more than we will be raising from community members. The foundation commissioned the painting to give Cokeville past and present members the opportunity to give back to Dave and his family, as well as the added bonus of contributing to a public art collection for Cokeville
For more information contact any of the Cokeville Miracle Foundation Board Members:
Karla Toomer - Chair
Chemene Petersen - Vice Chair
Susan Fiscus - Secretary
Bill Hammond - Treasurer
Carol Petersen - designated board member
John Teichert - designated board member

Cokeville Meadows National Wildlife Refuge
Cokeville Meadows National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is always a good topic to bring up if you would like to get in a lively (heated?) discussion with some of the folks that have lived in Cokeville more than 15 years! It's an emotional issue for some. For many, especially newer folks, it's kind of cool having a NWR right by your town and they look forward to the day when there is public access. Right now, you can only access it off the highway. There is some signage, an informational kiosk, benches, small walking path and a nice parking lot.
In 1993, Cokeville Meadows NWR was established. You can click here to go to the official website on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service site or go to www.fws.gov and look in refuges to get to the same information.
The refuge's own website, still under construction, is listed on http://seedskadee.fws.gov
Many locals do get a thrill driving by the refuge and seeing the elk hanging out...except if it happens to be elk hunting season!
